For the Goddess in every Woman

Surya Namaskar A-Power Sun Salutation

Surya Namaskar A takes the  Classical Sun Salutation and adds to that a full Dandasana (plank pose) as well as a float or hop from Adho Mukha Svanasana (down dog) to Uttanasana (forward fold). This is a great series to really get your heart rate to increase and bring heat into the body. Sun Salutations can be performed as a stand alone practice and will engage every muscle in the body when performed with focus and intention and using the breath. A strong Ujjayi breath will help to create this focus and heat in the body.

Classical Sun Salutations are composed of a series of 12 postures that are a complete yoga routine. In Surya Namsakar A we practice vinyasa (breath linked movement). For each movement there is one breath.

The poses in Surya Namaskar A are:

Tadasana (Mountain)
Uttanasana (forward fold)
Ardha Uttanasana (Half way lift)
Dandasana (Plank)
Chataranga Dandasana
Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Up dog)
Adho Mukha Svanasana (Down dog)
Uttanasana (forward fold)
Ardha Uttanasana (half lift)
Uttanasana (forward fold)
Tadasana (Mountain)
